Tulsa World
The Youth Philanthropy Initiative of Tulsa is seeking applications from new student participants and will hold an informational open house next week.
YPI, sponsored by the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Foundation and the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa, aims to generate and train teens to become community leaders and philanthropists.
The informational open house for students and parents is 6-8 p.m. June 15 at the OU-Tulsa Schusterman Learning Center on the OU-Tulsa campus at 41st Street and Yale Avenue.
Twenty Tulsa high school freshmen and sophomores will be chosen for the fifth class, or cohort, and will identify and research a teen issue in Tulsa then work with community leaders toward positive action. Previous issues addressed by YPI included depression and teen dating violence.
The three-year program provides those participating with skills in leadership, problem solving, project planning, conflict resolution and team building.
Applications are due no later than June 24 with final selections made by July 18. For more information or to apply online, go to tulsaworld.com/ypi
